Entire Facebook Network is Down for 8 hours
At around 11.45pm Singapore Time (GMT+8), the entire Facebook network went offline. This includes all the most popular/used apps like Facebook app, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
It was only until around 45mins later where the official twitter account for the respective apps started announcing that their apps are having issue.
Despite the term used by WhatsApp and Facebook twitter accounts is “some people”, from our investigation, the outage seemed to be global and complete. Its a complete outage.
Although the irony is not lost on everyone, as users flooded twitter to find information about WhatsApp Facebook and Instagram – showing the importance of Twitter as a media channel or new release outlet.
The most concerning thing now is that, how is it that the entire Facebook network can go down all at the same time? Could the 4 different social media platform be so linked up that one goes down, all goes down?
Why is the outage this complete and global? Wouldn’t it be just outage for some part of the world? All mystery should be a huge concern – this could spell extreme vulnerability for the users, especially for those that based their entire business on Instagram or Facebook (or both).
The outage of WhatsApp would probably once against bring another wave of users over to Telegram as a back up or alternative. WhatsApp is used like an universal messenging application for most countries around the world – the de facto messenging app for work, family and personal communications. The outage is likely to push people to consider alternate apps either for primary communications or as a backup.
