The Myanmar military junta had denied responsibility for the alleged assassination plot on Myanmar’s UN Ambassador

Myanmar says alleged plot against UN envoy was nothing to do with the country

Aug 9 (Reuters) – Myanmar’s foreign ministry said on Monday that an alleged plot in New York against United Nations ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, an opponent of the ruling junta, had nothing to do with the country and was a U.S. domestic case.

According to the report by Reuters on the statement by the Myanmar military-led government on state television MRTV, the junta had denied responsibility for the uncovered assassination attempt on the Myanmar’s United Nations ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, dismissing it as a domestic U.S case.

“The event is a domestic case in the United States. Judgment must be made in the United States according to U.S. law. It has nothing to do with Myanmar,” said the statement, read on state television MRTV.

Reuters was unable to reach a junta spokesman for further reaction to the alleged plot.

Two Myanmar citizens have been arrested in New York for the plot, tied to an arms dealer in Thailand that had been selling weapons to the Tatmadaw (myanmar military).
