Revamping DPA
Transforming Defense Politics Asia for relevance in the new era.
Defense Politics Asia (DPA) started out in November 2017 as a community funded think tank, headquartered in Singapore, dedicated to provide vital insights into military, geopolitics, internal politics and economic developments in Asia and around the world, from an Asian perspective.
After our co-founding Chief-Editor, Timothy Soh decided to go separate ways in late January 2021, and moved on along with all the copyrights to his work. With half of the content removed from the think tank, DPA inevitably have to restructure and undergo a rethink of DPA’s role moving forward.
You can continue to follow Timothy Soh’s work and articles on his Quora profile at: https://www.quora.com/profile/Timothy-Soh-3
as well as on his Quora “Space”: SEA Defence Review (https://seadr.quora.com/)
Defense Politics Asia, dubbed DPA 2.0, will expand beyond opinion posts and analysis articles, to provide more in-depth reporting and coverage of issues from around Asia (and beyond). Keeping to our original mission, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to provide vital insights into military, geopolitics, internal politics and economics related developments in Asia and around the world, from an Asian perspective.
In order to achieve this, DPA undergo some major surgery on the backup, adding functionalities that were previously non-existent on DPA – in ways that should make better sense for the users to navigate through the myriad of issues facing the world; while getting better macro views and perspective of major hotspots.
One of the most important new feature, would be the focus pages, dedicated pages that sums up the macro view of situation in a selected major hot spot. We will start off with one or two focus pages, and we will add more when we have additional resources to expand our coverage further.
In the new era, DPA will continue to look to Patreon as a means of revenue. (Out of respect and accountability, we have ejected all our patrons from our Patreon page (https://www.patreon.com/defensepoliticsasia) so to start anew for DPA 2.0.) On top of that, we will be monetizing our content through the use of Adsense (Google Advertising), which we expect will contribute at least a little bit to the upkeep of the website (which is unlikely to be sufficient as a revenue model to keep DPA as a viable business or as a replacement for Patreon).
Beyond the website, DPA will be exploring new ways to share content as well as driving up engage on the social media platforms, opening new presence on emerging social media platforms, like Gab and Parler; and we will be diving into creating content on Youtube ( current channel url: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgGHiivhFq7M_1MLemh-cjg ).
All in all, DPA will attempt to become a credible media outlet for military and geopolitical news, and hopefully continue to bring content and insight for years to come.
