This policy covers defensepoliticsasia.com and intel.defensepoliticsasia.com (together, “DPA”, “we”). Questions: admin@defensepoliticsasia.com.

Who we are

Defense Politics Asia is a geopolitics and defense analysis media company based in Singapore. The public site carries our analysis, Focus pages and videos. DPA Intel and the Conflict Atlas are the map platform; some layers are for members.

What we collect

Reading the public site needs no account. We only collect personal data when you sign in or subscribe:

• Patreon login: Patreon user ID, email, display name and your DPA membership tier.
• YouTube Membership login (Google): Google account ID, email, display name, profile picture, your YouTube channel ID, and whether that channel holds a Sergeant, Officer or General membership on a DPA channel.
• Email sign-in link and promo codes: the email address you enter and the code you redeem.
• Subscribe ($5 a month): payment is handled by Stripe. We receive your email, Stripe customer and subscription IDs and the subscription status. We never see or store your card number.

We never receive your Google, Patreon or Stripe password.

Google user data and the YouTube API

When you choose “Login with YouTube Membership”, we ask Google for permission to see your basic profile (name, email, picture) and to view your YouTube account (youtube.readonly). We use that permission for one thing: to read your own channel ID once at login, so we can check whether it holds an active membership on a DPA channel (Defense Politics Asia, DPA War, DPA News or DPA Open Mic).

• We do not read your videos, playlists, comments, subscriptions or watch history.
• We do not store your Google access token or refresh token. The token is used during login and then discarded.
• We do not use Google user data for advertising, sell it, or transfer it to anyone else, and we do not use it to train AI or machine-learning models.
• No person at DPA reads your Google data, except when you ask us to (for example a support request), for security, or where the law requires it.

DPA’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

DPA uses YouTube API Services. By signing in with YouTube you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google’s handling of your data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. You can remove DPA’s access at any time on your Google account connections page.

How we use your data

• Check that your Patreon, YouTube or Stripe membership is active at the right tier
• Keep you signed in across this site and the maps
• Show your name inside the member area
• Send the sign-in links and account emails you ask for

We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.

Where it is stored

Account and session records (user ID, email, display name, tier, session expiry) are kept in a secured database (Supabase) and the site runs on Vercel and our own web host. Sign-in emails go out through Resend. Payments are processed by Stripe. These providers handle data only to run DPA for us. Sessions expire automatically.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent or share personal information, except with the service providers above so the platform works, or where the law requires it.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account record while your membership is active, and delete it on request. To see, correct or delete your data, email admin@defensepoliticsasia.com. Revoking DPA in your Google, Patreon or Stripe account also stops any further checks.

Cookies

When you sign in we set one session cookie (dpa_session) to keep you logged in, plus a short-lived cookie during login to protect it from tampering. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Embedded YouTube videos may set YouTube’s own cookies.

Children

DPA is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We post updates on this page with a new date.
